An isolated Icelandic couple tending their flock discovers a newborn hybrid creature born of their sheep. They choose to raise it as their own child, awakening hopes of lost parenthood. But this strange being carries an ancient curse. As the family withdraws from the world, tensions deepen and the pastoral existence spirals into something dark and inescapable.
Jóhannsson strips folk-horror of its contemporary appetite for spectacle, substituting an austere, wordless dread where unease flows from Icelandic desolation rather than legible occultism or explicit ritual. Against the genre's instinct to accumulate symbols and mythology, Lamb deploys radical restraint—a deformed creature becomes an object of parental longing, not a demonic text to decode. Static framing, prolonged silence, and visual starvation displace horror from the visible into fractured psychology. This is folk-horror internalised as family pathology, isolation redefined as a perverted sanctuary; less sorcerous conspiracy than accumulated emotional damage rendered through landscape and gesture.
