Men

What haunts you will find you.

A grieving woman retreats to an isolated English village to escape her trauma, only to find herself hunted by the men who inhabit it—all manifestations of a singular, shape-shifting entity. What begins as unease metastasizes into surreal dread as mythological echoes and primal rage take flesh. Garland's fever dream unfolds across a landscape that transforms into a mirror of psychological dissolution, where the boundary between curse and consequence dissolves entirely.

Trailer

Garland's gamble with *Men* remakes folk-horror as an unbounded metaphor for trauma, collapsing the genre's usual scatter of ritual and landscape into a single morphing face. By casting Kinnear as every male inhabitant of the valley, he strips away the folkloric texture—the accumulated specificity that defines the sub-genre—and replaces it with digital repetition. Where folk-horror derives its charge from estrangement rooted in place and practice, *Men* opts for a more schematic allegory: one body, infinite iteration, patriarchy as aesthetic algorithm. The technique announces itself, refusing the invisibility that grounds authentic folk dread. Divisive among scholars of the form: some see necessary provocation, others see the abandonment of what made folk-horror distinct—its ties to actual cultural substrate, however invented.
