Josh Lambert returns from the Further, but the entity that possessed him remains tethered to his family. As they attempt to rebuild their lives, supernatural disturbances escalate within their home. The boundaries between worlds grow thin, and an ancient presence threatens to consume those who venture too deep into the darkness. Only a team of mediums can uncover the buried secrets of a house haunted by spirits far older than its current inhabitants.
Resuming the very night the first film ends, Chapter 2 is less a sequel than a mechanism: the hypnosis session that erases Josh's and Dalton's memories — the same act Elise performed on young Josh back in 1986 — doesn't close the story, it arms it. That amnesiac lock is what makes The Red Door possible, nine years later in the story, ten years later in theaters. Few horror franchises engineer their own dormancy this deliberately: Chapter 2 closes the Lambert loop and entrusts what comes next to their erased memory.
