A grieving teenager attempts to contact her deceased mother despite a seasoned medium's warnings. When a franchise kills its anchor in the first film, it has two options: resurrect her or turn back the clock. Insidious chose the latter, and Chapter 3 is the founding act of that pivot. The first film created a phenomenon; Chapter 3 creates a team — Elise, Specs and Tucker, the matrix around which the whole saga would reorganize. It is also Leigh Whannell's feature directing debut, before Upgrade and The Invisible Man. The saga's true chronological starting point is also the start of its second industrial life.
